Need rent money? – Each and every month, without fail, a fair chunk of your income will be snatched away for rent. Nobody enjoys that. There are some years where it will become even less enjoyable paying rent too.
When summer rolls around, you may not be hanging around your building all that much.
You could be a student that is heading home to your family. You could be heading out on a long summer vacation. Or, you could be doing something completely different which leaves your building empty for long periods of time.
Rent payments will still continue
Obviously, even if you aren’t there, rent payments will still continue. Thankfully, there are ways to earn a little bit of money throughout the summer to keep the rent money flowing in while you are off doing whatever.
Here are some methods to make money for rent this summer. Some of them will require a little bit more effort than others.
Rent It Out For Rent Money If You Need Rent Money
This is something that you will only be able to do if your lease says you can do it. If you are unsure, then make sure that you ask your landlord.
If you live in a major town or city, then there will be people willing to rent your building short term. In prime locations, you may actually be able to make your rent money back within a week or two if you list your property on Airbnb.
If you normally have some extra space in your home, then you may want to look into using Airbnb for the rest of the year too. You can make a nice amount of cash doing that if you need rent money.
Do bear in mind that you will be acting in the role of a ‘hotelier’ here. If the people staying in your building have problems, then you will need to deal with them. You may also need to hire a cleaner to clean the property between rentals.
If you don’t want to deal with the extra aggravation, then you may want to look into ‘long term’ rentals. Quite a few people may be looking to rent properties for 2-3 months at a time. Craigslist is a safe bet for finding these people.
Ride Sharing For Rent Money
There are several ride sharing companies to choose from. If you want to make the most amount of money, you should stick to Lyft or Uber.
When you are a ride sharing driver, you will be taxiing people around. Obviously this means that you will need to own a car if you need rent money.
However, if you do, then you have the freedom to choose your own working hours and location of your work. Just install one of the top apps and you should be ready to go.
Get paid to lose weight if you need rent money
Yes. You can earn money losing weight. No. It is probably not going to be enough to cover your rent. It will be a few dollars at the most. However, those dollars will start to add up quite quickly.
Sites like DietBet will allow you to set weight loss goals for yourself. You can then place a bet on you achieving them. if you do, the site will give you your bet back, plus a little extra bonus on top.
Clean out your home if you need rent money
Why not declutter your house a little? You can probably find a lot of junk kicking around your home which you can sell on. Plenty of websites to head to here. The usual suspects being Craigslist and eBay.
However, you may also want to try out the Decluttr app. You will be surprised at how much cash you can make from old books, furniture, and whatever else you find doesn’t fit into your home anymore.
This isn’t really you making some extra ‘cash‘. It is just going to allow you to make the money you have already go a little bit further if you need rent money.
So, what is Digit? Well, it is an app that you can link to your bank account. Once it is all hooked up, it will take a look at what you are spending each day. Digit will then take a small amount from your bank account daily.
This is money it knows that you won’t need to spend. It will then put it in a separate account.
You probably won’t even miss it.
A few weeks later, you can open this account and withdraw the cash you have ‘saved’. You will be surprised at how much you have there. Maybe not enough to cover rent fully, but you should be able to shave a good chunk off. Alternatively, you can just leave the cash there and use it as an emergency fund for another time when you need rent money.
Do some surveys if you need rent money
If you fancy answering a few questions, then sign up to some survey sites. Each day, answer a couple of surveys on the sites. You could (feasibly) earn about $10-$15 a day for no more than an hour work.
Sell your gift cards if you need rent money
Do you have gift cards kicking around for stores that you never head to? Well, why not make money from them?
There are several sites which allow you to sell your gift cards for cash. Raise is probably the best of them.
You won’t be able to get the full value of the gift card when you sell them on, but at least you are going to end up with cash that you can actually use on rent, right?
Work Remotely if you need rent money
If you have certain skills, you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be people willing to pay for those skills.
So, why not become a remote freelancer? Sell your writing skills online. Maybe do a bit of web design. Are you at college? Why not do a bit of tutoring to other students?
All of these methods can make a huge sum of cash, and you will be surprised at the number of websites you can utilize to reach your goals.
If you use a combination of these methods, and some won’t take more than a couple of hours per day, you won’t need to worry about paying for your rent out of your pay check at all.
They really are that effective at giving you a bit of extra income when you need rent money.
